...God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all...

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” 1 John 1:5-10.

Today verse 5 means the world to me: “God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.” Today I said goodby to my son for the last time. His heart was being kept beating by a respirator so that his organs could be donated to others in need. But when his heart was unable to continue beating, everything was over, including his ability anymore to contribute his organs.

There is such a temptation to blame God for his sudden, accidental death. But, I must remember that “God is light and in him there is no darkness at all” (Verse 5). Even though everything went array in Andrew’s life in the last four days, I remember that “God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.” You see, “ If Andrew walks in the light as God himself is in the light…the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses Andrew from all sin” (Verse 7).

Yet John reminds us in verse 8 that, If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” We know that is true, and certainly Andrew knows that is true, and so he has now fully confessed his sins, and he knows fully that “God who is faithful and just has forgiven Andrew all his sins and cleansed him from all unrighteousness” (Verse 9). More than ever before in his life, Andrew knows that he can never say that “he has not sinned,” otherwise, he makes God liar, and the word of God is not in Andrew” (verse 10).

So today, Andrew is with the Lord, for God has forgiven him and Andrew now knows that “God is light and in him there is no darkness at all”

(Verse 5).

So, dear friends, take time today and confess your sins to God, and know that “God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
