...standing in judgement...

“1 Think of us as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries. 2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they should be found trustworthy. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself. 4 I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgement before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive commendation from God” 1 Corinthians 4:1-5.
Paul says some clear and sobering things here for us to consider. He says: It is the Lord who judges us…so when the Lord comes again, He will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of our hearts. So when to judge and when not to judge; when to listen to words of criticism and when to dismiss them as irrelevant and a waste of time — these are decisions which themselves need wisdom and good judgement.
So it is essential to pray, and to live as one who is trustworthy, remembering that it is the Lord who will judge each of us. Remember, and live your life never forgetting, that it is “the Lord…who will disclose the purposes of your heart.”
These are sobering words. But do not worry. Start today to follow Christ and to live as faithful a life as you can. Lean on the Word, prayer, and the grace and mercy of God. And may the faith of others be a blessing to us all.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
Today’s Prayer
Oh Lord, I know I will one day stand before You and Your judgement.
Have mercy on me, a sinner, and bring me to live with You forever.
May I serve You today and for eternity.
Look not on my sins, but on the faith of the church.
Use however many days and hours I have remaining,
to live as Your faithful servant.
And this I prayer through Jesus Christ, Our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
One God forever, Amen!
